Privacy policy

How Vokari, the vocabulary flashcard app, and this website handle your data.

The short version

Vokari stores all vocabulary locally on your device. There is no account, no sign-up, no cloud sync and no third-party server holding your data. The app collects no analytics and shows no ads.

Your vocabulary data

Every deck and every word you create lives as a plain file in the app's local storage on your iPhone or iPad. Your learning progress — the level each word has reached in the spaced-repetition review — is stored the same way, right next to the words themselves. None of it leaves your device unless you use the optional AI photo import described below.

Because everything is local, deleting a deck deletes its words immediately, and deleting the app deletes all of your data. There is no copy on our side to delete, because we never had one. The flip side of the same coin: there is also no cloud backup — if you want to keep your decks when switching phones, a standard device backup via Apple is the way to carry them over.

What the app does not collect

The app contains no analytics, no advertising frameworks, no crash trackers and no third-party accounts. It does not ask for your name, email address or location. Vokari cannot profile you, because nothing in the app identifies you in the first place.

AI photo import

When you import vocabulary from a photo, text recognition runs entirely on your device — the photo itself is never uploaded. Only the recognized text is sent to an AI service to structure it into word pairs. The text is used solely to build your flashcards and is not linked to any account or identity, because Vokari has none. If you prefer that no text leaves your device at all, simply add words by hand — the import is optional and everything else in the app works without it.

Read-aloud

The read-aloud feature uses Apple's speech synthesis on your device. The words you hear are generated locally; nothing is sent to a server to produce the audio.

Purchases

Vokari is a one-time purchase on the App Store. The payment is handled entirely by Apple; we never see your payment details. There is no subscription and nothing to cancel.

This website

This website uses Google Analytics to understand how many people visit and which pages are read — for example, which blog guides are useful. Google Analytics sets cookies and processes usage data such as pages visited and approximate location on Google's servers. We use these statistics only in aggregate; we do not attempt to identify individual visitors. No analytics run inside the app itself.

Changes to this policy

If the app ever changes how it handles data — for example, a new feature that needs a network connection — this page will be updated before that version ships, with the date below reflecting the revision.
